Integrating Prevention into Your Practice: American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children Prevention Guidelines

The New York State Chapter of American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children presents this workshop on Integrating Prevention into Your Practice. While much of professional practice has the objective of preventing further maltreatment, it is often difficult to understand how to best incorporate prevention activities into our work. This workshop will be hosted by a member of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children Board Prevention Task Force who will review current evidence and best practices in the child maltreatment field and discuss guidelines to assist professionals in integrating preven-tion into their work.

Forensic Interviewer at Trial
May 09 - 11, 2012 / Winona, MN
This course is designed for teams of two. Make sure you apply in a team of two consisting of one prosecutor and one forensic interviewer. This training requires attorneys and forensic interviewers to work together in preparation for a child abuse trial. The course combines lectures and practical court exercises to enhance the ability of the forensic interviewer and prosecutor or civil child protection attorney to defend the forensic interview and multidisciplinary team investigation from attacks by the defense.
This trial advocacy training is designed to provide an opportunity for attorneys and forensic interviewers to work together in preparation for the inevitable attacks launched by defense attorneys during a child abuse trial. The course will combine lecture and practical court exercises with the goal of making the forensic interviewer and attorney better able to defend the forensic interview and multi-disciplinary team investigation.

Advanced Forensic Interviewer Training: Interviewing Teenage Victims of Abuse
May 23 - 25, 2012 / Little Rock, AR
This advanced training is for Forensic interviewers that have completed a 40 hour forensic interviewing course. This course is designed for forensic interviewers actively conducting forensic interviews with minors involving child abuse allegations and maltreatment. Forensic interviewers are required to have successfully completed a basic forensic interviewing course. This two and half day course will focus on forensic interviews with teenage victims of child abuse and maltreatment. The course combines lectures and practical mock interview exercises to enhance the ability of the forensic interviewer to engage with teens and better facilitate communication during the forensic interview.

On-Site Advanced Forensic Interview Training
May 23 - 25, 2012 / Your Location
This is a three-day training conducted at your site. training course is for forensic interviewers, child protection workers, tribal social service investigators, law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorneys who have completed the required prerequisites. The course teaches advanced forensic interviewing skills including; modifications to the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol: RATAC® for physical abuse and other violent crimes, physical evidence in the forensic interview, autism spectrum disorders, multi-session forensic interviews, a mock cross examination demonstration and active participation in peer review using a variety of written assessment tools. The training fee is $6,500.00 for up to twenty (20) learners and an agency representative must enter into a contractual agreement for the training and associated expenses including the trainer’s travel, lodging, meals and other expenses.
Prerequisites:
Completion of one of the following basic interviewing courses:
- CornerHouse Child Sexual Abuse Forensic Interview Training
- On-Site Child Sexual Abuse Forensic Interview Training
- First Witness™ Forensic Interview Training
- Finding Words™/ChildFirst Forensic Interview Training
- Completion of a minimum of fifteen (15) interviews using the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol: RATAC® (waived for prosecutors).
- Ability to bring a video recorded forensic interview conducted utilizing the CornerHouse Forensic Inteview Protocol: RATAC®l. This will be used for the purpose of confidential peer review (waived for prosecutors).
